Our barbotines take place...

This exhibition is an opportunity for us to help you discover or rediscover the world of Palissy Followers and more generally the artistic ceramics of the second half of the 19th century, including the historicist side. Good example here with a big plate of Thomas Victor Sergent and its mythological decoration

And we are pleased to present to you the first press release that supports event widely

Our exhibitions for Spring 2014

With the warm weather arrives two major exhibitions for Galerie Vauclair. First, the month of May will mark the annual event of the Carré Rive Gauche in Paris.

From May 15 to 18, we invite you to discover an exhibition on the theme "Each Piece has a Story" For this occasion we will present some new pieces like our exceptional panel by the Manufacture of Sarreguemines, France.

Manufacture de Sarreguemines, Decorative panel "Lohengrin" by Wagner, circa 1870-1880, enameled earthenware, 165 x 90 cm

This decorative panel composed of sixty-six tiles, comes from the kilns of the ceramic factory of Sarreguemines. The décor shows the great influence of Richard Wagner, his music and operas on both fine arts and decorative arts. Here the décor recalls one of his most famous works: Lohengrin. Written between 1845 and 1848, this opera was first given in 1850. The scene represented is part of the first act, when the mysterious chevalier arrives on his very ornate ship, looking for Elsa who eventually accepts to marry him.
By itself, this panel evokes a piece of the history of decorative arts, the history of taste. It convenes various arts to form a new story.

For June 2014, Galerie Vauclair prepares an unprecedented event: for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings, she will exhibit more than one hundred barbotines/majolica at Manoir d'Argouges, exceptional property of Laure & Bertrand Levasseur.
Manoir d'Argouges (Vaux-sur-Aure), built between the 15th and the 17th century

Under the sponsorship of Mr. Stéphane Bern, presenter of the tv program "Secrets of History", the exhibition "L'Art de la Barbotine, les Suiveurs de Palissy débarquent en Normandie" will run from 1 to 22 June 2014.

For the exhibition you will find a beautiful collection of Palissy's Followers : Avisseau, Landais, Brard, Barbizet, Renoleau... All those artists who, during the second half of the nineteenth century, look to the art of the past, especially the Renaissance.

The press starts to talk about the event :
